LONELY AT THE TOP IS A MYTH
For too long business has been a lonely game.
How many times have you heard someone say, it’s lonely at the top? How many stories have you heard of people giving up on their dreams or failing in business because it was just too hard, or they made avoidable mistakes? How many times have you, as an entrepreneur, wished that there were more people like you who you could talk to, share your challenges with, and grow with together with?
That it needs to be lonely at the top is a myth! It’s only lonely if you don’t connect to the others that are on the journey with you.
WALK TOGETHER
A good analogy would be that of climbing a mountain. You have a great idea to go to a specific mountain and climb to the summit, so you jump in the car and drive to the start of the walk. As you start out the sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day, but as you start to climb it starts to hurt a bit, but you’re going to the top so you crack on, looking up, occasionally looking back at where you came from. The view is immense, yet you’re climbing, and there’s no one around you. Then, around the next corner you spot a view point and there are other climbers there. You can walk past them and carry on, or you can stop and enjoy the view too. You stop, and get chatting. They are going the same way. You take their pictures for them, they take one for you, and then you keep climbing. But now you know some people going the same way, it feels easier as you chat and help each other with navigation. At the next view point, higher up, you meet more people and you get chatting to them too. You share cake and coffee and the previous people you met catch up. Now you’re surrounded by a group of like minded people. It’s no longer lonely at the top, there’s a shared sense of achievement. You all continue at your own speed, and then one by one you reach the summit. Some celebrate, others sit and meditate in the view, others get into dangerous positions just to get the perfect photo. You’re at the top, you made it, and it’s not at all lonely. It’s more like a party at the top. You share some more coffee with your new friends, share stories of past adventures, and where you’re going next, and after some time everyone get’s up and starts to walk again, onto their next adventure.
